Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we seek the lost and alienated, transform them into disciples of Jesus Christ, and send them back into the world to seek others.
- What do we mean by “lost and alienated”? We mean those who are on the outside. They may be alienated from God, from their families, or from their community. These are the people we seek, for we too were once lost and alienated.
- What do we mean by “transform them into disciples of Jesus Christ”? A disciple is someone who follows another and models their life accordingly. A disciple of Jesus wants to live like Jesus in this world. This is not being “so heavenly minded as to be no earthly good.” This is living like Jesus in the hear and now–loving others sacrificially, giving of oneself without reservation.
- What do we mean by “send them back into the world to seek others”? Once one who has been blessed by God, should long to bless others. We recognize how much we have been given by God and wish to freely share it with others.
- But how is this possible? It is not! At least it’s not possible for us, in our own power. For this reason, God sent the Holy Spirit to empower and enable. It is through dependence upon Him that we do this (Acts 1:8).
